General Anesthesia & Advanced Sedation
Comfortable, safe, and closely monitored anesthesia options — allowing Dr. Smith to perform complex oral surgery with little to no discomfort.
General Anesthesia
Modern anesthesia technology allows Dr. Smith to safely perform even complex oral surgery in the comfort of our office, with little to no discomfort. Multiple anesthesia options may be used to control pain and anxiety, including local anesthesia to numb the surgical area, nitrous oxide-oxygen (commonly known as “laughing gas”) for light relaxation, intravenous (IV) sedation for deeper relaxation, and general anesthesia, which allows you to sleep comfortably through your procedure.
For patients who prefer sedation or general anesthesia, Dr. Smith may begin your IV using nitrous oxide to enhance comfort from the very start. While you are asleep, a long-acting local anesthetic is administered to keep you numb and comfortable for several hours following surgery. This allows ample time to return home and begin prescribed pain management before any discomfort arises.
Before your procedure, a thorough medical and health history is reviewed, with careful attention to medications, allergies, and existing health conditions that could affect anesthesia or surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Smith will explain all available anesthesia options and recommend the most appropriate choice based on your procedure and individual medical history.
Comfortable Surgery Starts with the Right Anesthesia
If you’re considering oral surgery and have questions about sedation or general anesthesia, our team is here to guide you with clarity, compassion, and expertise.
